As seems to be the habit I’m about to write a few words on something I have barely used, but hey why bother waiting until you have a real understanding of something.
I installed the Genius feature on iTunes pretty much when it became available, not really thinking that I’d use it or knowing what it was but hey if Apple thinks I need it then chances are I need it.
So I’ve left it there and pretty much not touched it, until the other day when someone said to me ‘how cool is that Genius thing in iTunes’, to which I just awkwardly replied ‘yeah…’ thinking that the only thing it seemed good for was to try to get you to buy more music from them. But he was referring to the fact that you can choose one song and tell it to make it a playlist.
It then consults the great Apple database in the sky or whatever and pulls together these songs which it somehow thinks are songs you’d like to listen to based on that one song… and it seems to be right…
This is like choosing random on your whole library and seeing what songs are played and having that happiness that comes when a song that you forgot you owned, or haven’t thought to play in ages, comes on. But without (well mostly) having to listen to songs that are completely random in your library and you loaded on there because one day you might listen to them but you don’t really see that day coming…
It also means you can choose one song in a style that you feel like hearing and rather than having to think to pull a playlist together Apple does it for you.
Here’s another thing that I would like someone to either invent, or let me know exists at a reasonable price…
It’s simple, I own a Desktop and no longer have a Laptop, now I love the specs that I could get in a desktop at a reasonable(ish) price but the thing I miss most about a laptop is facebooking/tweeting/surfing/doing other stuff in front of the TV.
I can tweet and facebook from my phone, but really it is so basic and it sucks, I want full functionality, I want to be able to chat online via facebook whilst watching TV.
Now I don’t want to move the computer into the lounge room, and I don’t want to spend a pile of money getting a laptop, so all I want is basically a tablet style pc type thingy, but without the price tag, that will remotely control my desktop.
So it basically is a screen and keyboard, it can be an onscreen touch keyboard… maybe… it doesn’t have a hard drive, or a massive processor, it just needs the basics that will be able to control the desktop and therefore use it’s processor and memory etc.
I understand the limitation that someone else won’t be able to use the PC while I’ll on the tablet thingy but that’s cool.
I set it up and all worked fine, as soon as I plugged it in it ran through and found all the stations automatically. Flicking through I noticed some had a ‘bad signal’ box show up on the screen but I was too worried cause they were working most the time and I just wanted to get on with watching the tour.
Now it is almost impossible to get all the SBS channels, which rules out both the cricket and the Tour de France, which was the clincher that made me buy one.
I had a quick word to my electrician friend and he tells me it could be because the trees in our front yard are in the way. So now I have wait until I could me stuffed, and have all the right gear to, move the antenna, or ‘move’ the tree.
Problem I see with the second option is that the tree in the way is about the only tree we actually like it our front yard!! The rest are pine trees and rather average, whereas this one is pretty much a keeper…
I don’t really want to have to do either, I just want to watch a bike race, is that too much to ask?!
I ducked across the road to get a take awayacoffee (Campos BTW) from The Big Brekky cafe and while I was waiting for my flat white (no sugar FYI) the lady behind the counter gave (I repeat GAVE) me a free (I repeat FREE) rasberry & blueberry home cooked muffin!
I didn’t even ask for it or anything! I think she must read minds…
This is one of the most amazing things that has ever happened to me!
I’ve been thinking lately that I want to get back into exercise, well I don’t really but I do want to be fitter and that.
I’ve tried to figure out a time when I can go for a jog, actually it’s really a walk but being a guy I need to say jog because it sounds more masculine. Anyway, so I toyed with the idea of a night walk as I thought it could be more convenient and I like the idea of an after dark walk. But unfortunately in the end I haven’t been able to motivate myself and there’s just too many other things on at night to make it feel really regular.
So I’ve decided that if I’m going to do it I’ll have to go back to getting up early, like 6am or something and going then, but of course being winter this is hard.
None the less this week was the week I was going to start, now I’ve been in Sydney all weekend and got back late Sunday night so it would be silly to go Monday due to how tired I was and would be that day.
That leaves this morning, so I eased myself into it by getting up at 6am and going to Maccas for breakfast with David.
I think it went really well, but only time will tell if it has helped me develop good habits.
Just quietly, I’m looking forward to seeing updates on our blog.
