Stuck.
So this afternoon I was excited to be heading home for the long weekend. I finished PT, packed my bags, and drove… as far as McDonalds at Sutton Forest, where my car’s water pump blew up.
To cut a long story short, I’m now back in my room at the college, my car is at a mechanic in Goulburn, and I’m fairly upset. I’m still holding out a faint hope that either I can get the car fixed tomorrow, or that someone who’s still here by some fluke will be heading back near my place (and would also be willing to drive me back on Monday afternoon), but at this stage I’ll be spending the weekend here.
On the plus side, there’s plenty of study/fitness/boot polishing to be done, and I can get my laundry and ironing done while the place is empty. I also have a number of West Wing episodes, the second season of The Wire, and can catch up on sleep.
Trying hard to be positive.

that sucks.
I’m in Dubbo man… love to be able to bail you out…
The wire season 2 is a plus though… I’m up to season 4 episode 6. It rocks my world.

Thanks man.
Woke up early this morning, found out that there are a couple of other guys still here to do a first aid course. They’re going home later today, but at least there’s someone to go to breakfast with.
On reflection it’s not the worst thing in the world, it’s just really disappointing not to get home. Thank God for phones and the internet though, at least distance can be covered in the meantime.
The Wire is awesome.

Got a lift home with a guy who lives nearby – thank God for the first aid course!
Got a bunch of laundry and ironing done, and have spoken to the mechanic. Car should be ready by next weekend.
Next week we’re into uniform. I still haven’t got all of mine, but I have enough to not stand out too much.

Uniform is kind of fun, except for all the ‘responsibility’ that goes along with it (I’m told). I’m still waiting on my cargo pants, which means I’m stuck wearing the formal ‘dress’ uniform all the time (including in all the practical classes, which can be a challenge). The pants are made of scratchy wool, so I’m getting a really nice level of chafe happening.
Had an assessment today, which I think went pretty well. I had to interview someone about an incident that happened (actually they just watched a video), and now I need to write a witness statement. It’s quite challenging to get everything the way it’s meant to be, but I’m enjoying it.
Heard back from the mechanic this afternoon. The car is going to cost significantly more than I had expected, but we’ve been in a lot worse situations than this.

Vaseline man… Vaseline.
Lather up. No man should have to endure chafe from scratchy wool…

Cargo pants finally arrived this morning. Fairly happy about that.
Just had our first ‘public order’ training session. We form up in lines, and try to hold them against ‘protestors’ (another class). Fairly good fun, but we got a bit fired up, and I think a few people might be nursing some grudges after the class. Great bonding for our team though.

I got a lift home. Really pleased about that. Pizza for dinner. Probably almost as pleased about that. I love pizza.

I watched that TV show tonight…
Not sure what to say but all the best for the future (that doesn’t sound right, but you know…), I’m sure you can handle it(again not right), maybe cope with it or something, I suppose to be realistic you’re going to see some crap… But you have great friends, I’ve met some of them, who are there always…
Of course we’re also looking forward to hearing cool stories…

Thanks man.
It’s strange watching that show. We know a lot of the instructors, and they often have a go at the way they were portrayed, or at one of the students. We’re on the range again later this week, so it’ll be funny talking to those guys – they’re usually a good laugh.
In terms of dealing with all the crap out there, I have no idea how I’ll handle it. I guess you can’t really know until you deal with it first hand. There’s just your training (such as it is), and then your own personality/background etc.
Still no word on my car, I’m waiting on a phone call.
