Jeep Update

Chris

Just a quick update, this is where the Jeep is at.

All the dash components and electricals are now removed and most the bolts holding the body to the chassis are off, so soon we’ll be taking the body and getting to work on it and the chassis.

And still we have no idea of what we’re doing, it’s like a big puzzle… pull it apart, clean it up, put it back together, surely we don’t need to know anymore than that!!

Mays lane retrospective

Dicker

mays_lane_retrospective

Thursday is now my day off and Fi and I have made a habit of using the time to become more “cultured”…

Last Thursday we went to see the archibalds (excellent) and today we went and saw the Mays Lane Retrospective at the carriage works in Redfern.

2 things…

Firstly the Carriage works are brilliant!! It’s one of those old industrial spaces that they’ve (I assume NSW govt or Sydney council…?) transformed into a brilliant art space. It also houses the studio that they use to film “So you think you can dance”, and is complete with a cafe space and free internet… me thinks it’ll be a nice work space on occasion.

Secondly the Mays lane exhibition is inspirational. Mays lane is in St Peters (near Enmore) and is used as a legal graffiti zone, and from time to time international and renown graffiti artists are invited to come and paint in the lane. They put up some large wooden panels in the lane and the artist paint the panels (as well as the walls) and the panels are kept by a curator for exhibition, ergo, visa vis, hey presto… the Mays Lane Retrospective exhibition.

I say get down there!

As a side note for Vanessa… the Anna Swartz Gallery (a permanent gallery within the carriage works) currently have an exhibition of artist Yin Xiuzhen, who does artworks I think you’d really enjoy, BUT… the exhibition finishes this Saturday… 2 days…

Number 18… Gone…

Chris

I had an appointment for the dentist today, was a little worried as I haven’t been in years.

So after a checkup, a few x-rays and quite a bit of gag reflex action, the dentist thought it would be a fun idea to remove one of my wisdom teeth, tooth 18 he tells me.

He hakes me sign a piece of paper acknowledging this, and the gives me a couple of jabs with the needle.

So he goes to start and I kind of feel some pain, which he said that if I did he could give me more jabs of the needle, I said I kind of did but told him to have a crack anyway.

I sweated a LOT, and shook a little, that was nerves though I think, but in the end it really wasn’t all that bad.

Let’s see how I wake up though… when the needles wear off…

Wall and Piece

Chris

So, I thought it was about time I blogged again, I did so well for a little while there but have dropped off again.

I thought I had nothing interesting and was ready to tell the mundane, but then I remembered I am now the owner of a fantastic book.

A good friend of mine that you may know, Michael Dicker, sent me a copy of Wall and Piece, a collection of some of the works by Banksy.

I haven’t had all that much time to sit down and have a long look at it, but I have been able to fit some time in here and there and my goodness it has been good!

I love the guys style, including both the art he produces and the way he goes about things.

I wish I had a camera…

Chris

Sitting at work now, so gotta be quick…

I just saw the most amazing thing in the world!!

2 cop cars and a pilot vehicle passed our work, so we were keen to see what was following to have an escort like that.

Then it appeared, I saw the truck front first, followed by another truck front, and another, all towing one another. They were then towing a MASSIVE trailer that had a huge transformer or something on it, the trailer had a guy sitting in a cab at the back as it had rear steering.

Then, there’s more, another truck was attached to the back pushing it, and another attached to that pushing as well!!

The whole lot had hydraulic lines running between the trucks to sync all the engines and that, each truck had it’s own driver, but I gather the front guy was the one controlling the whole show…

My goodness, it was tops!!

And another couple of pilots cars and another cop car was following that…

Jeep

Chris

Just thought I’d quickly chuck this on the blog, my brother Col just bought himself a 1974 Jeep as a project car.

It’s going to live in my garage whilst we do it up, I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into it.

He also got a second one, when he bought this one, which doesn’t run and is missing things like a few lights and that. We’re undecided what we will do with that one yet, there’s a couple of guys interested in buying it, but we’re kind of thinking of trying to get it going as a bit of a paddock basher, or going nuts and making a 4wd that wouldn’t be road legal but would be a lot of fun!!

So here’s the main one, this one runs, but needs a Tune up, among other things…

For more photo’s go to my Facebook account.

A bit in the poo…

Dicker

So yesterday Bazz asks me if I want to go out and get a thai lunch… Of course I do! i love Thai lunch. Fi and Evie are invited too.

Fi was out all morning, so when she comes home i pass on the offer… But Evie is ready for bed so the answer is negative.

So I ask “well’ would you mind if I still go?”

“No. that’s fine”

“Are you sure? It’s OK if I go?”

“Yep”.

“Alright I’m off to thai lunch with Bazz. Be back soon.”

“I can’t believe you’re going…”

“What? I thought you… but you said that I… ?”

“Yeah but I didn’t think you’d choose to go.”

“But you said it was fine… ?”

“yeah but I want you to want to stay.”

“I will stay if you want me to, but you said I could go… so that’s why I was going”

[Confusion... and blank looks. End scene. Close curtain.]

This is just the sort of stereotypical husband – wife conversation that is totally untypical of Fi…

But while I’m up to neck in fecal matter I might as well add to it by blogging about it.

Now I’m in the poo.

iPhone

Peter

I really want to get an iPhone.

Here’s my justification(s):

* My phone contract ran out last June, and I can get an iPhone if I sign up to a new contract for pretty much what I’m paying monthly at the moment (give or take $5).

* My iPod’s battery life is deteriorating at a rapid rate (I get about 45 minutes out of it lately), so an iPhone would replace two appliances with one – that’s environmental also, right?

* I really, really want one.

However, I can also see the advantage in not being under a contract, especially as I’m still studying for the next few months.

Also, I heard a rumour that a new iPhone was due to be released in July this year – can any Apple types confirm/deny this?

Twitter

Chris

I’ve had a twitter account for a couple of years, I think I did about 6 updates in 2007 and nothing since. But on the weekend a friend decided to sign up to twitter and added me to her watch list, so I thought I’d have another crack at it.

The problem I see though is this, Twitter is a website dedicated basically to the same idea as a Facebook status update, the idea being to answer the question “What are you doing?” and I suck at doing Facebook status updates.

But non-the-less, I’ll have a crack…

So to place a little more pressure on myself I’ll put this link up to my twitter account: http://twitter.com/chriswaghorn
