YY dreamin’

Peter

OK, so after watching tonight’s (repeat episode) Top Gear African special, I’ve been inspired… instead of spending a YY weekend in a house somewhere drinking beer and solving the problems of the world, why don’t we do some form of road trip?

Choose a vehicle and off we go… Great Ocean Road? Somewhere North? Somewhere West? (East isn’t really too much of an option)

We could camp in the evenings if it’s nice weather, or go to a motel, or…?

I watched the episode last night. Maybe we should buy a car for $500 and see how far we get before it breaks down and we have to set it on fire…

It might be a crap holiday, but it’ll be a great story!

  • Peter Says:

    Sounds like a great holiday!

I also like the idea of taking a road car… maybe we could get one called ‘Oliver’ like Hammond’s last night?

I think Nathan M would enjoy that sort of holiday too – perhaps he would like to YY it up?

I love this idea, it’s a pity we can’t get do it during AFL season and maybe road trip it to the MCG for a game.

Although I’d kinda like it if part of the trip was through towns and that we hadn’t been to.

Then again I’d be happy to head to QLD, am I thinking too longer trips??

    4 weekend maybe??

I also thought that we could spread the word and try to finance the trip through this site, including car, which means that I think one fun thing would be that we would have a budget and need to find a car for that amount. Although we would need to try to come up with strategies to direct a lot of traffic this way and hope that advertising on the sites would work. If you know what I mean!

Nafe M would love it, plus he could help you guys fix the car if it breaks down, I’d be of little help.

Ok, so here’s some thoughts on destinations… Been doing a little research the following are all west, so the times are from Dubbo cause I figure I’d meet you here, so you kinda have to think about the extra time to drive here from Sydney. Although of course I’m happy to meet you in Sydney too, if it made more sense.

6hr 48mins. Hungerford QLD, there’s a cool little pub, not much else and similar towns on the way, dirt roads too.

9hr 29mins. Tibooburra NSW, which in essence is to visit Cameron’s Corner and thus jump between 3 states at once. Dirt roads naturally.

8hr 16mins. Broken Hill NSW, although I reckon we take a detour through other towns, get on the dirt a bit and have a look around.

9hr 32min. Kingaroy QLD, we could visit Tim and Laura Moroney and Josh at Dalby (not sure if you know but they’re beach mission friends Pete)

12hr 34min. Bundaberg QLD, rum and ginger beer I suppose.

13hr 21mins. Adelaide SA, just for laughs.

Another option is to listen to the “I’ve been everywhere man” and see how many towns out of the song we can do in 4 days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I've_Been_Everywhere

Or another option could be to write random place names on slips of paper within a certain area and draw them out of a hat and the order they are drawn is the order we have to visit them. This would mean that we would have to plan our route so that we couldn’t “accidentally” go through a town before we are meant to.

Or we could go as far as the big red rock, insane I know, but cool.

Or we could pick another attraction in the middle of nowhere and go see it, some salt lakes or something, I dunno.

I’m a little bit exited right now about the possibilities this trip holds!!

  • Peter Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Broken Hill or Cameron’s Corner… although that would mean at least 15 hours driving (each way!) from Sydney… maybe a bit much for a weekend (even a 4 day weekend)?

  • Dicker Says:

wow, i didn’t even know this conversation was going on because i haven’t been looking at this thread for a bit, but it’s all sounding pretty awesome

  • Dicker Says:

    I’m up to speed now

  • Chris Says:

So anymore thoughts? How far do we think is too far? or far enough?

I suppose it’s all how we look at it too, if we want to kick back and relax at some point, or if just want to be able to say we drove to Orroroo and back in a weekend. Or Manly.

  • Dicker Says:

I’ve been to Orroroo to pick up some pigs with my uncle back in oh 1992 i think…

we need to get an RSS option for comments on blogs so that we can subscribe to blog comments we want to keep up with.
