Hello 2008
Ok, so it’s a little late for the whole first blog of ’08 for me and that… but I got excited and just had to write this somewhere…
While having a little look at Facebook I noticed that Laurie mentioned something about the Olympics in his status. It’s an Olympic year people!! How good is that?!
There some serious sitting in front of the telly and watching sport to be had this year, and I can’t wait!!
I’ve often thought about taking holidays for the whole Olympic period just to sit and watch, or to sleep during the day and stay up all night, or whatever it takes based upon where they’re being held.
But I’m already running low on holidays this year, I’m taking a week off soon and I don’t even have enough holidays for that, but my boss is tops and giving it to me anyway… so not sure I’ll be able to justify holidays to watch telly, but we’ll see, maybe I can make it coincide with other holidays…

The olympics are exciting aren’t they-I get most excited about the paraolympics – for the simple reason that our school mate Ben is still competing in them- it’s just so much cooler when you know someone! perhaps we should try and befriend more olympians… do you have any connections????

That’s a great idea. I do know someone that was going to be trying to qualify for the olympics in track…maybe I should try and hook that friendship up again!!!

I saw a children’s game the other day called the “Home-olympics”…
When you say it out lout it doesn’t sound so good…
“what have your children been doing these holidays?”
“Oh, my son’s been getting into the Home-olympics.”
“mmmmm.”

That’s a top plan Fi.
We’ve a got a few months, but will need to get started pretty soon if we want to get to know an Olympian well enough that we can claim we know them.
I figure we need to see and speak to them about 3 times to be able to claim we know them.
So here’s a suggested plan, we go onto Facebook and find an Olympian, then we use that six degrees of separation program to find out the links between us and them, then we simply work our way down the chain meeting and befriending whoever we need too. I can see it know, manipulating conversation and fishing for invites just to meet the next person we need to. We’ll eventually get down to “So Jane, do you know anyone by the name of Fred Smith, I’ve always wanted to meet someone with that name” then when we meet Fred, “so the Olympics are on this year, wouldn’t it be cool if we knew someone that was competing” shortly followed by “Oh really you know him, an Olympian, I would never have guessed that you would know someone” then “so do you see them much?” etc… until we meet them.
Any other ideas of how we can meet an Olympian? (It could be a tough year to do it as others may have the same idea, but if we put the hard yards in it could pay off!!)
