So I was at a mates place the other day, and it all went down!! Lucky I had my camera on me…
You’ll see I cut the filming short, things really started to heat up and I needed to get in there and help him out, I had to call upon all my skills, nun chuck skills, bow staff skills… etc…
So I thought this was going to turn into a major headache…
Last night I looked at my hand and discovered my wedding ring was no longer there. I chose not to panic and thought that maybe it was at work as I did take it off at one stage because it was a little uncomfortable. So I got into work this morning, had a look, and found out it wasn’t here… bummer.
I haven’t had it resized since I lost some weight as I’ve always been afraid of putting the weight back on, once the ‘phase’ had passed, but I did realise that it seemed to be a little looser over the last couple of days as I lost a little more somehow.
So I called Nat and asked her to look in the washing machine, I put a load of sheets on last night and didn’t get a chance to hang them out. Thankfully it was there!!
Major, costly, in cash and sentimentally, annoyance averted! Phew…
So I almost didn’t blog about this, it’s another one of those ads that they produce to go in the ‘epic’ ad category, but this one doesn’t really have the wow factor for me. It’s a bit impressive, but I just wasn’t amazed by it, and I’m sure that’s the reaction that they’re looking for.
Last night Fi, James, Nathan & Laura, and myself went to see Keating the musical for James’ 25th birthday present, and it was a cracker!!
I’m not one one for musicals but this was fantastic! It was probably made even better because James could fill me in on all the little Keating puns that I otherwise wouldn’t have got… in fact I’m sure it was.
A very pleasant unexpected surprise was that the musicians in the stage band were actually part of the acting crew. So not only were they some of the most awesome musos I’ve ever seen or heard (who played every style of music from mambo to reggae to jazz, funk, and love ballad), but their involvement in the play really brought an added extravagance of flavour to the story line and the production. It wouldn’t be half the play it is without them - they were incredibly funny.
I had heard great reviews of the play, and this is it’s 4th season (and sold out!). You might be saying to yourself “I can’t see how a musical about a politician could be exciting or fun…” but you’d be pleasantly surprised, political satire is what this country is built on. It’s our God-given right as Australians to embellish the truth for the sake of a good story and take the piss out of any public figure we love or hate (it’s in the constitution, right next to the Mabo agreement and Daryl Kerrigan’s “the castle verdict”…).
So even if you don’t like politics, you should see it! But on the other hand, if you do like politics and you’re a liberal supporter you probably shouldn’t – well, maybe you should… it might make you see the light… [any further political comment is censured]. Nevertheless, whatever your persuasion, it worth watching just for the Alexander Downer sene alone.
I’ve been doing an early morning ride with some guys from church the for the last year or so, but the last 2 weeks we’ve gone for our 6:30 am ride twice a week (2 days in a row even!) and I’m feeling better for it. We always stop in Leichhardt at a cafe for a coffee and some toast at the end of the ride for a chat (and a reward) which always makes the early morning start worth it. I had a big Mac for dinner on Sunday night so I’ve had to work extra hard on the bike this week and push that little bit harder, hopefully I’ve worked off the 2 all beef paddies, special sauce, and cheese, and only the lettuce is left…
In other news: I made another banana bread! The recipe still proves to faithfully serve an awesome banana bread every time!
I’m off to Moore college library this morning to try and do some study for exams next week without the distraction of internet, email, TV, eating, cleaning, sleeping, or even staring at the tiles on the bathroom floor… Procrastination give life or death importance to even the most ordinary of things. The fact that I’m even taking time to bog about this is a testament to how much I’m struggling with studying at the moment. It feels a little bit like when we had stuvac for the HSC except that I actually care about how I do in these exams…
Moore’s library is a nice little find. Baz introduced me to the place a couple of months ago. It’s got books galore, and you don’t even have to be a student to go there and use their stuff, well I think that’s the case… you can’t borrow stuff if you’re not a student but at least you can sit in there and use it…
Fi and I hired out and watched History Boys from the DVD store last night.
We’d been wanting to see it for some time and had heard good reviews, it looked like it might be a bit like a Dead Poets Society kinda movie, but… we were wrong…
As a person who like history, there were points of this movie I liked, for example, I found it had an insightful take on what history is, how it is recorded, and how it can (should?) be handled – some of what they said about peotry reminded me of the Psalms and how they continually speak to God’s people struggling to live God’s way in a world of rebellion – i liked that…
However, what is most disturbing about the film is that it more or less trivialises inappropriate sexual behaviour between adults and minors/teachers and students! This was a very unexpected theme of the movie! A homosexual teacher (and main character) tries to rationalise fondling his students balls as kind of preparation for life and helpful teaching method…(WHAT!). The teacher is rebuked by other teachers when he’s found out, but the movie itself doesn’t seem to rebuke the practice, as the male students at the centre of the movie basically put up with it as a an acceptable part of the learning experience. I don’t know what school the writer of this film went to, but if any of this is based on his experience, then someone needs to tell him it’s not normal or acceptable…
Apart from trivialising pedaphilia, I was also not expecting the film to run a strong emphasis on casual homosexuality/bisexuality… where one student offers his teacher a blow job for helping him pass his college entrance exams, not because he’s gay, but because he thinks “hey, why not?”, and everyone seems to think that there’s nothing really wrong with that…
It could just be that I’m a bit conservative, or maybe I’ve just been sheltered from the world, but this flick has got some serious issues to work out… You can decide for yourself if you want to see it.
